Lines Review
Lines Review
If you have achieved a good lines solution in terms of student satisfaction, it is important to review it to make sure that it is robust enough to meet the challenges of timetabling and also of maintenance as the year progresses. Here are some things to consider:
- Lines without enough free space for students joining through the year: consider setting a minimum number of classes per line.
- Lines that satisfy current students but are too specialised for potential new students: this can be tricky if the solution is ideal for the current students. However, there are usually multiple solutions that could also satisfy students, model some alternatives to make sure that you have the most resilient solution.
- Skewed lines because of part-timers needing specific days off when they are the only option to teach certain courses: This could mean, for example, that there are several lines that they cannot teach on as they run on their day off. This will affect the ability of the solution to satisfy students. In an ideal world part-timers would not be doing all of their teaching on senior lines, they should have some balance between lines and floating classes in other year levels.
