      Final Checks

      Final Checks

Your timetable is completed, well done! Now is the time to review before the commencement of the new year. The timetable is the heartbeat of your school, and any improvement, no matter how slight it may seem, will benefit either your teachers or students.

      Teachers:

      • Have you checked allocations to ensure all your teachers are on load? Ensuring teachers are not overloaded is essential for many reasons, not least of all retention.
      • Are there teachers underloaded who could be given a class from someone with a heavy load? Having teachers underloaded can be a significant cost for your school, but where unavoidable this can help to reduce the Casual budget.
      • Are teachers’ timetables balanced across weeks, if you have a two-week timetable? Similarly, check loading across Semesters if you offer semesterised subjects.
      • Have you looked at individual teacher spreads? Minimising the number of full teaching days is greatly appreciated by staff, and swapping staffing in like subjects may assist in achieving this.

      Students:

      • Have students who missed Subject preferences been followed up? Ensure all students have been counselled before timetables are released.
      • Check your students have been placed in all classes, using reports to identify gaps or missing allocations.
      • Place senior students into Study classes where required and add Support classes.

      General:

      • Check Faculty timetables to ensure equity in use of specialist spaces, to ensure all teachers and students have access.
      • Are high demand areas, such as Science Labs, Art areas, or Gyms utilised fully? Check your space timetables to identify any underutilisation.

Timetabling software has functionality and reports to identify, analyse, and where possible, improve outcomes in these tasks.
